Plus, I forgot:

At the opera the woman behind us took no less than fifteen minutes to unwrap one of her candies. Yulia, who works in the Smolny office, was sitting next to me and at one point turned all the way around in her chair and just stared at the woman. Meanwhile the woman's friend was trying to tell her to forget about the damn candy in a hushed voice that only made things worse. That definitely added to the general aesthetic of the experience.

Today was my friend Maneka's birthday, also Caroline Holland's birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LADIES. What an exciting day. We ate a not very good cake that looked like a very good lady bug and hung out in the Smolny café.

In СМИ class today we talked about "Бизнес По-Русски" (Business - Russian style) which meant we covered all the vocabulary for bribes and unofficial pay. Surprise, surprise.

probably the best vocab you'll learn all year knowing the trouble you get yourself in, selling organs in back alleys and all.
